About this archive
A shitajiki (下敷き) is a flat plastic board that Japanese students place under their paper while writing to keep the pen from bleeding through and the page smooth. Pokemon-themed shitajiki have been produced continuously since the late 1990s as Pokemon Center store exclusives, movie theater giveaways, arcade prize promos from Banpresto, magazine furoku, and one-off campaign tie-ins.
They were never released as a numbered set. The catalog below groups known boards by era, design family, and character focus, with photo slots open for additional examples.
Both sides of a shitajiki are catalogued separately because many feature different artwork on front and back — campaign artwork on the front, often a TCG-style pattern, mini-comic, or product blurb on the back.

The front carries dense Gen 1 and Gen 2 group art around the green wordmark; the back carries Tauros in front of Pikachu, Chikorita, Elekid, Phanpy, Ponyta and Cyndaquil. Both sides print the same footer, BANPRESTO 2000 MADE IN JAPAN and the prize mark, which is the whole of what dates and attributes it. No specific prize campaign is established.

That is every Fire Pokémon of Generation 1, which is what the number in the title counts. Made by Showa Note, sold by TOMY. The address block prints a five digit postcode, a format Japan replaced in February 1998, so the board is older than that. JAN 4901772771562.

One side prints NOT FOR SALE and carries Flutter Mane, Gouging Fire, Walking Wake, Brute Bonnet, Great Tusk and Raging Bolt; the other carries the Kura logo with Roaring Moon, Sandy Shocks, Slither Wing, Scream Tail and one further Ancient paradox. There is no Iron Pokémon on either side, so the board is Ancient only and not an Ancient and Future pair. Nothing printed on it carries a year; the cast places it no earlier than late 2023.
